I thought this course was fantastic: many areas were covered and there was good incorporation of both technical aspects as well as theory. Many of the things covered were interested and implemented in an understandable manner.
With that said, I think the course would benefit from being split into two three hour sessions (if possible) during the week. 6 hours of the same subject can lead to some burnout.
There could have been more clarity on the grading criteria, and active grading throughout the course to know where the student stands. How can I improve my work over time if I don't know if I need to make improvements?
All-in-all, thank you for the course :-)

I acquired a handful of knowledge during the course. I am now familiar with various terms, models, frameworks, ideas, and tools that were previously unfamiliar to me.

Absolutely. The assignments and activities led me to complete numerous tasks for the first time, such as password hacking, creating threat models, encrypting and deciphering messages, and working with tools like WebGoat, PortSwigger, and Burp Suite. Additionally, I gained experience in installing a virtual machine on a MacBook and using Linux both in a virtual machine and on a Mac. The course also introduced me to Tor network, and now I'm tempted to make a transaction there:)

Undoubtedly, the knowledge gained from the course is highly valuable, especially for cybersecurity professionals. Although I'm not currently in a professional setting, being exposed to a variety of frameworks, tools, and concepts related to information technology and security has provided me with enough if not solid foundation. I am confident that this familiarity will prove useful when transitioning to a working environment or even as I progress in my academic goal.

I found the presentations interesting; however, I would have preferred predefined topics instead of choosing them ourselves. It was evident that different topics required varying levels of technical skills.

Comments and feedback on homework and assignments were subjective. It would be beneficial to have more clarity on expectations and grading criteria. However, interaction with classmates and the teacher was really helpful, and I received answers to my questions.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course, to the extent that I invested a considerable amount of time in assignments and presentation preparation, even attending early 8 am sessions consistently. To enhance the course, providing predefined topics, clearer expectations for assignments, and refining the grading criteria could be beneficial.

I have already recommended the course to some fellow students. Anyone interested in cybersecurity and looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of various tools, frameworks, and concepts in Information technology and security would greatly benefit from this course.

First time cracking passwords and sending encrypted messages.

Definitely broadened my view on information security on pretty much all levels, and learned what tools would be good to make it even better. Started using a password manager for example.

Classes kept being interesting during the whole course.

I believe the subjects we went through are some way or another useful in my jobs in the future.

All in all I enjoyed the course.

Did you learn something? yes
Do you now know something you did not know before the course? yes, more than (Models, frameworks, ideas, tools?) SQL Injection
Did you do something for the first time? yes I download the dark web, password manager, encrypted messages.
(Broke passwords, broke into web service, create treath models, used password manager,
encrypted messages?
Used some technique or a tool for the first time?) yes
Is this useful? Are these skills useful in companies?yes
How did you like the presentations? All of them were amazing
Interesting subject? Did you like presenting? yes
Useful information? Actionable?
How did you like comments and feedback? It’s important
Did you get answers to your questions? yes
(from classmates, teacher; to your homework, presentations)
Feelings: did you enjoy the course? Yes, in a way of learning
How could I improve the course? Maybe by dividing it to two classes
(I can make almost any change here, if it's important)
Would you recommend the course? yes
Have you already recommended it? No
Who would benefit from the course (a colleague, a fellow student)? I think everyone.

This course gave me really good theoretical and practical approach to information security. I really enjoyed course, as it felt like it was tailored during the course through feedback. Instead of just taking exam in the end of course, I got a chance to actually understand the key concepts through detailed homework and labs. I also really enjoyed making the presentation, as I dove deeper into a more specific and applied subject at the end of course.

Pretty much everything was new to me on this course, which made subjects super intresting.

I feel like this course gave me really fundamental skills in the IT-world. Not only for my studies but also for my day-to-day life.

Comments and feedback didn't only tell me what I did wrong. I always got detailed answer that helped me to understand my mistakes. I think mistakes are crucial part of learning and teachers and other students feedback made my learning way easier, if you compare that to other courses.

Feelings: did you enjoy the course? Absolutely. I had my doubts about taking english course, but those doubts were wrong. (Which was really good!)

I think most important thing is to keep adjusting by the group size and listen to the students. I might enjoy this course more as 2 lectures / week course. 6 hours straight with multiple subjects sometimes was a bit too rough. On 6-hour lecture, it would be really good to have theoretical part and practical part, like we did few times.

I would say it was great learning and a lot new things learning and get aware of like
Did you learn something? I learned about social security and personal security of systems and credentials needs to be secure. with smart moves as well as helping tools.
Did you do something for the first time? Did try to break the password and created a threat modeling. Also, for the very 1st time get to know about private key and public key encryption.
Yes, I would definitely say it is very useful when you work for any organization and at any stage.
Presentations were another knowledge source to dig in your backside knowledge about saving your systems and credentials, passwords, phishing, system security and organization information.
About the classmate presentations, I would like to say it was very informative and added to my learning.
Feelings: did you enjoy the course?
About your course feedback I would it is over 100% the way you explained the topics and conveyed the topics were expanded, personally, I loved the way to taught us and explained each and every be it was homework or presentations was amazing. Still, a lot to learn from you to the way you present and teach techniques.
I have already recommended my friends from campus as well as from my workplace to learn about infosec.

— Kulwinder Kaur, 2023-10-09

Yes, I learned a lot during these 8 weeks!
There is a substantial amount of content every Monday. The teacher is very passionate, but sometimes there's an overload of technical information or just information that is hard to follow. The same goes for the homework; it took me a lot of time to complete the assignments every week. I have already recommended the course to a fellow student.
Thanks!

i learnt lot of things also found lot of resources that can learn hacking, security vulnerabilities, security models.

Yes i learnt hacking, used password manager, and Dark Web search, message encrypt

Yes knowing security vulnerabilities and cyber security methods i can be aware for threats, also can develop/Test software tools with less vulnerabilities

Yes the presentations were great as they are described by students, so it can understandable to another student and there are more interesting topics that i never heard before

Its good to have feedback so i know what areas i am missing and then i can improve it in my next homework

Yes i enjoy well, as there was not only theory but also practical, and wile teaching lot of examples were given

It feels like rushed, the information we received for a one day is huge. It is good if the course is go slowly

i already recommended this course to my friend who is doing software development as the major

I learned more about cybersecurity, although it was mostly theoretical information. During the course, I did several things for the first time, such as breaking passwords, gaining unauthorized access to web services, creating threat models, and using a password manager.

I believe that continuing to learn about cybersecurity could be useful in the future, particularly in a corporate setting, but my current skill level is not enough.

While the idea of the presentation was good, maybe it would have been better to split it into smaller parts rather than one or two long sessions.

I'm not a fan of evaluating other students. The course duration is too long for my liking. It's challenging to stay focused for six hours even with breaks. The teacher's explanations were fast-paced, making it difficult to follow everything. The homework was quite long, especially the summary part.

Perhaps it would be better to divide the course into two three-hour sessions to make it less overwhelming.

Despite my reservations, I would recommend the course to people seeking basic knowledge in cybersecurity.

It was a very good comprehensive course, I learned the basic awareness of Information Security, among with other tools. For example Threat modelling and Cyber Kill Chain, also Encryption was a very interesting topic that I learned from this course.
We were able to practice encrypting and decrypting from the virtue machine, it was fun to encrypt and decrypt messages with public and private keys.
The knowledge we learned from the course is definitely useful for our daily life, and also help to understand better for the following course about networks and servers.
How did you like the presentations? Interesting subject? Did you like presenting? Useful information? Actionable? Many presentation were given from classmates, some of them had very interesting topics, for example Zero Trust Security Mode;OPSEC and the criminal world; Race Conditions, etc.
I received many useful and encouraging comments from classmates and great help from Teacher.
Enjoyed quite much for the course.
More related course in English will be perfect.
I already recommended this course to other students who are study ITBBA too and will definitely recommend to other students.

— Yanli, 2023-10-09

Throughout this course I learned a lot. I had some previous knowledge of these topics, however I got to understand them more in-depth. To give examples of what I did for the first time: cracking hashes and encryption. The lessons were done very well to help me understand the topics and how they work practically. I believe these skills are very useful to further my IT career.

The presentations were enjoyable. It was nice to hear from other students and see what type of topics they choose.

The comments from classmates on the homework varied: some were more in-depth and others were just a few words. I'm not sure if this is the most benefical, as most of the feedback was just a single word.

Overall, I did enjoy the course and got a lot of insight into these different topics we discussed. I have and will continue recommending this course to other IT students!

— Marissa, 2023-10-09

The course was very interesting. I learned a lot of things that are practical and can be applied right away. The homeworks although very long and time consuming, motivated ne to study the topics by myself.
It would be nicer if the homework could be posted as soon as possible after the lecture so we get time to work on them.

Technical aspects of the course was a little bit high at the start of the course but eventually it was discussed and changed to more suitable level.

— Ibrahim Mfaume, 2023-10-09

I'm a second year student and so far this course has been the best I've attended! I learned and understood the key concepts that Tero set out to teach.

The topics felt relevant regarding future employment. It was fun and challenging doing the exercises (both at home and in class).

There was a a lot of homework and sometimes fitting it into my schedule was hard as there weren't many days to do it when most students have other courses going on as well.

An excellent course!

— Renne Jämsén, 2023-10-09

I learned a large amount of information in such a short period of time regarding security, but not only security but also how to use the Linux operating system and many sociological principles. This was my first time learning about any of the topics that we had covered and I think the teacher did an amazing job making it as easy for us to understand. He was very passionate about the subject which it shows which motivated me to come to the lectures not only because the topics were also interesting. I recommended this course to many of my classmates as I found that they could also get a lot from this short course, not just for themselves but for their future as IT students. The presentations were good and enjoyed learning about my own topic but they weren't the main attraction to me for coming to this course.
To be honest this was the best course I've had so far in my studies and I would wish more of your course would be in English. The only way that I could see this course being improved is if it lasted longer with more topics, just to make it a 10-credit course.

i have learned new things i had no idea about before, threat modeling, hacking, securing and many other methods
everything we did on this course i did for the first time, breaking passwords, xxs, browsing the dark net, encrypting and decrypting messages
this is incredibly useful and will be a strong add to my cv when applying to companies that i know the basics of security and i wont be a liability when working
i liked most presentations since people chose topics that were interesting and i liked presenting since the topic i chose was something i find interesting and i have knowledge about
feedback from classmates was good sometimes but most times just one word "good" and a generic grade, feedback from the teacher is much more in depth and useful
i liked the course a lot, to bad it cant be a full semester
the only improvement would be a longer course with more tactics and processes
i have recommended the course already and i will again

— rodrigo avila, 2023-10-09

This class had a lot of interesting topics, where I could learn a lot of thing about information security. I also learnt by myself after the classes in other eras.

— Márk Lévai, 2023-10-09

Yes its realy a good course and valueable in terms of learning. Yes I learned new things and technolgy. I will recommand this course to other student.

I think class shoukd be in two parts like theory and lab in a week. Becuse its too much things in 6 hrs.

I enjoyed the course and learned new skills.

Thanks.
